Monthly Merits: October

Monthly Merits is a monthly series where I recount and award the month's worthiest moments in merits.

Exhaustion never tasted as good as when October handed it to me on a silver platter, a main course of tender meat flavored with herbs. I feasted on it without a moment's hesitation, chewing rapidly and letting it overload my senses.

As predicted, October was an amplified September. So many things to do, so little time to hold a camera in my hand to document. This won't be the usual merits, more of a highlight post, short and sweet.

1. TW!STED

I mentioned in September's merits that I joined a musical production as a lighting technician and musican. It came to life on the second to last week of the month, and it was a blast. Based off the world of classic Renaissance Disney, Tw!sted simultaneously ruined childhoods and socially commentated on issues rampant in today's world. King Triton a misogynist, Snow White a drug abuser, Aladdin power-hungry, Cinderella a silly materialist, and the list goes on.

I'm incredibly thankful and honoured to have worked with such an amazing, talented and insane group of people.

2. DRAMA PRODUCTION

I did this one crazy thing at the start of the semester -- I enrolled myself in a Drama Studies module. Just a reminder that I am a Computer Science student. Coding juxtaposed against the bizarre, refreshing environment of a Drama class has been incredible, but I had not anticipated the fact that students will be required to pull of an entire production as part of our assessment.

The rest of my October was dedicated to being a director, actor and part of the media team in preparation for the production. It's been extremely time-consuming, but satisfying at the same time.

3. FRIENDS...?

I've never counted myself much of a people person, but this month, what with two drama productions going on, it was inevitable that I had to interact with people. Little did I know that I would be interacting with people who share the same interests as I do -- music, art, writing -- when I signed myself up for something outside of my comfort zone. October was thus filled with amusing conversations, intellectual discussions and complete inspiration.

This post was written later than expected -- for which I apologize -- but, as has been for the past few months, life has been an absolute whirlwind. At the time of writing this, I am running on two hours of sleep feeling more exhilarated than ever.

Just like the past few months, I will still be prioritizing life -- especially now that exams are coming right up -- but I will still be around social media. Just not hogging it. See you around!

How was your October?
