Monthly Merits: July

Monthly Merits is a monthly series where I recount and award the month's worthiest moments in merits.

July was slightly bleak, four whirlwind weeks I'd rather leave behind for a much better tomorrow. July is the storm after the calm -- an endless, vicious cycle that strips and takes, but what is washed away brings back only what is cleansed. July was blue. Bad blue, bitter blue, but also blissful blue.

Here are the merits for July.

FAVOURITE PROJECT OF THE MONTH: ENGEL BY HAUS VON JIMMY R X PHOEBE CHOK
I had the opportunity to work with a local indie jeweler, Haus von Jimmy R, for the launch of their new collection of body chains in collaboration with local model Phoebe Chok, of whom I've had the honour of interviewing here before. I initially jumped on board as a model but ended up being Jimmy's graphic designer and post-production editor. It was pretty darn awesome.

FAVOURITE MOMENTS OF THE MONTH: FRIENDS AND LOVE
Last month, I waned off social media as ennui replaced something I once envisioned an obligation. This month, I consciously stayed off social media to take life in, the result a resounding rise of time spent with friends and loved ones, a whole lot of reflection and also maybe a little too much sleep.

SETBACK OF THE MONTH: EXISTENTIAL CRISIS
I get bouts of existential crisis frequently but none as severe as the one that sucker punched me right in the gut and lungs this month. But I think if this had to happen, July was the right time for me to spiral into despair because time offline led to people slapping me in the face with the cold hard truth, and there ain't nothing like the cold hard truth to veer you back on track.

As July slips into the past, August looms before me a month of studying, working and more studying. My summer break is over and I shall be diving back into university this month, which means priorities and more priorities and planning and more planning.

Let's go.

How was your July?
