Monthly Merits: March

Monthly Merits is a monthly series where I recount and award the month's worthiest moments in merits.

March was like lights on a twilit evening, buzzing and beautiful, bright and burning. March was a good month, March was a bad month, March was an okay month.

I find myself amidst the tangled web of limbo as April rises before me. A painful desire to run into the arms of Spring showers and flowers encapsulates my heart and yet, as I look back, I see March as a canvas for colours to smear on black, splatters to heal all that is nothing. Much like February, March was bad and beautiful, the distant bokeh of memories better left alone.

FAVOURITE MOMENT OF THE MONTH: MUSIC
March was the month where I seized music back and pulsed it through my veins, scores of glissandis and trills reviving the musician in me once again. I've had several moments with Ophelia this month, playing at University events and little shows here and there the entire month, my favourite being playing in an ensemble once again at the annual Francophonie Week held in the middle of March.

SURPRISE OF THE MONTH: MUSICAL THEATRE?!
Announced at the beginning of March was Belle: The Musical, a local production by Relentless Entertainment that will revive and bring a tale as old as time to the stage of Brunei. I booked my ticket nearly a month before the opening and anticipated the day I could see my childhood hero sing live on stage.

Until I got pulled into the production as an actress and a visual crew member. Not only did I get to watch the musical on all three days, I get to be a part of it too?! I played the role of The Enchantress; a tiny role, but my first acting role nonetheless. Being used to sitting by the music pit with a violin in my hands during musical productions, I was way out of my comfort zone but felt extremely honoured to have worked with some of the most musically and creatively talented people in Brunei.

DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE MONTH: BLOGGING -- OR THE LACK THEREOF
As I've had to prioritize things in life this month, I chose to push blogging and social media in general back, of which the logic I fathom with utmost clarity but disappointment suffuses The Mayden's hands nonetheless.

PROUDEST MOMENT OF THE MONTH: NERD
While University has had drained blogging time from me, it seems to have been for the better as I've done quite excellently when mid-semester rolled about during the month, acing modules as a first year, first semester student in classes where second and third year students linger. So proud is The Mayden who keeps her label as class nerd.

OVERDUED MOMENT OF THE MONTH: HAIRCUT
I finally chopped off my locks during the month of March and documented it as symbolic move on The Mayden. It's long overdue and I'm glad to have finally parted with dead hair and memories.

April is the month before semester exams and I anticipate a lot of midnight oil burning and exasperating cries. As for blogging, I've decided to keep it as I did in March as a hobby rather than a priority, so I apologize in advance for lack of blog posts.

How was your March?
