Monthly Merits: February

Monthly Merits is a monthly series where I recount and award the month's worthiest moments in merits.

If this February were personified, she would be the girl finding comfort in coffee, socks and the heartbreaking The Beatrice Letters amidst rips in tights and shorts -- and comfort she shall find, and in comfort she shall settle, because there is nothing coffee, socks and books cannot mend.

February started out stormy and I was shipwrecked, but the endless tides of good news and opportunities that crashed my way swept me back to shore. Here are this month's merits.

FAVOURITE MOMENT OF THE MONTH: FRIENDS AND SUSHI
A dear friend who left for Georgia to continue her tertiary education last year returned for Winter break. Her return instigated a feast not unlike one held for her when she left last year. It was an entire evening of sushi, catching up and laughs like I haven't had in a while.

CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH: UNIVERSITY & ASSIGNMENTS
I grossly underestimated the time and work needed for university. Assignments hit me from all directions and I was a bit stunned at the amount of work I had to do alongside blogging and working. Sleepless nights and deadened mornings were not scarce this month.

SURPRISE OF THE MONTH: "FASHION BLOGGER"
Of all the things that has happened this month, being invited to a fashion bloggers'* high-tea was something I did not expect at all. When I received an invitation from a pioneering local fashion brand, Naforrer, to join some of Brunei's most fashionable for an afternoon of fashion discussion, I good as jumped out of my skin.

It was during this meeting that I encountered and had the privilege of acquainting with some of the most intelligent women I have ever met. This was also where I met Min of discofissh and subsequently shot one of my favourite collaborations so far.

HONOUR OF THE MONTH: "WRITER"
As much as I honour and have come to embrace the title "blogger," it is the word "writer" that shoots butterflies into my stomach. It isn't necessarily something I'd call myself willingly, but it is something I have worked towards since Day One.

This month, it happened; I was invited to a Spoken Word event where poets, writers and comics gathered for a night of verbal imagery and stories. I was invited as a writer and I got to read out, to a room filled with storytellers I respect, one of my favourite posts on the blog, 6:06PM.

SHOCK OF THE MONTH: HARPER LEE, R.I.P.
Anyone who knows me personally in real life will know that I go no where without To Kill a Mockingbird in my bag. Harper Lee was my literary hero and to have learnt of her death left me no less than shocked that Saturday morning; you never expect your hero to die before you do.

While this month did not go as smoothly as it did January, I think that it was still a pretty darn good month compared to what it was like a year ago. 2016 is kicking off right and I am excited for what's to come.

How was your February?
