3 Hairstyles for Hats

Yes, the angels shall sing as I finally put on a hat that isn't a beanie!

Courtesy of Born Pretty, I was sent this adorable bowler hat* for my inner blackhat desires headwear-loving pleasure alongside three other items, of which two I'm wearing in this post: a plaid bow tie* and a dark purple lipstick*. In-depth review for those to come soon, but let's focus on the hat in this one.

With my new found treasure, I've decided to show you some of my favourite ways to wear my hair with a hat plopped on my head.

#1 HAIR DOWN
PERFECT FOR:
The girl who wants to look cute but who suffers a severe case of
snoozing the alarm clock five times in the morning.

TIME TAKEN:
Quicker than your morning wake up routine.

HOW-TO:
1. Tame that bed head into #1.1 or #1.2.
2. Pick up that hat.
3. Plop it on.
4. Look cute and head out to brunch after taking an OOTD.

#1.1: SIDE-SWEPT

This is easily my favourite way to wear my hair, hat or not, but I'll dump lil' Derby on just to look extra sassy and hipster.

#1.2: BOTH SIDES

#2 PIGTAILS
PERFECT FOR:
The girl who wants attention.

TIME TAKEN:
Depends on how long it takes for you to find your elastics.

HOW-TO:
1. Tie your hair into either #2.1 or #2.2.
2. Pick up that hat.
3. Plop it on.
4. Look cute and go to a music festival and/or an open mic.
Optional: Wear fairylights in place of your favourite necklace.

#2.1 BRAIDED

Make anything plain look much more interesting by braiding your hair and pulling confused, bimbo-esque expressions.

#2.2: TRADITIONAL

Leave them unbraided for automatic permission to act extra immature. You're welcome.

Pigtails are my go-to hairstyle. Now we know why.
#3 LOW BUN
PERFECT FOR:
The girl who is class and sass at the same time.

TIME TAKEN:
A whole Ella Fitzgerald song.

HOW-TO:
1. Tie your hair into either #3.1 or #3.2.
2. Pick up that hat.
3. Plop it on.
4. Look classy and chic.
5. Get up on stage.
6. Slay.

#3.1 BACK-BUN

Keep your hair out of your face while you strut that stage looking hella fine, bow tie and all.

#3.2 SIDE BUN

Alert people to the existence of your hair by bunning it to the side. Alternatively, look to your left or right all of the time for maximum effectiveness.

This post is slighty unconventional in The Mayden terms -- very unconventional, actually -- but I felt the need to express silliness in some form because of how wonderful I've been feeling this past week. Also, the lack of fun posts on this blog worries me, so here you go; nausea-inducing, gag-worthy silliness and sarcasm just for the fun of it.

In all seriousness, though, all the above ways can work with any length of hair and any kind of hats. The bowler seems to accommodate any kind of hairstyle and I'm loving it. It's made of a sturdy wool blend and fits snugly around my head at a circumference of 57 cm albeit looking slightly out of proportion to my huge head. You'll be seeing this in a lot of outfit posts in the near future. Just sayin'.
