An in-your-face necklace and ruffled lace, a gingham skirt over blackened tights, it's all about elevating a casual, preppy look by injecting snazzy, sassy sophistication into this one.
Our host is the grayscale gingham skirt, a pattern that has been storming the fashion world the past couple of months. With its dominance being the delicate front for dainty midi dresses in the 90s, this skirt gets the seal of vintage modern with its A-line silhouette and pleated hem, enhanced by the monochromatic palette gracing the otherwise famously pastel coloured pattern.
The skirt is an irrevocably loud piece, one that would garner the sole attention had it not been for the obnoxious necklace* that I decided to chuck on. Elegant, over-the-top and ridiculously beautiful is the statement necklace sent over kindly by Happiness Boutique, a German online store that has been firing up the blogosphere.
Arriving in a neatly packaged box, a personalized card accompanying, a smiley face thrown in, I wish I could say the piece arrived perfectly. With one of the many plastic crystals fallen off and the top row in a slight, uneven disarray, my initial reaction -- that of spazzy shouts and squeals -- subdued as I wore the piece out.
Perhaps this reaction is fueled by an eye that favours the neat and the prim, but I'm sure one who is not as irrationally pedantic as I would find the piece far more than satisfactory. Rooted with a drive to spread happiness, the store is of lovely quality, with its customer service that tends to your need (my piece arrived curiously late and the sales rep was extremely patient with my inquiries), free shipping and a customer reward program that covers the vast array of pieces that grace the store taking the front line.
All black and a statement necklace. How predictable can I get?
Too predictable, it seems because I am about to complain about my lack of sleep.
I have reached a new high in life, surviving on 20 hours of sleep a week. While I enjoy the workload that has been keeping me feeling worthwhile, my skin has been hating me for the sleep -- or lack thereof -- I have been getting. A coffee mug on my desk, the blackest, thickest brew
I can afford steaming beside me, it is not unusual to find me snoozing, scowling or sighing in deserved exhaustion.
My October is seeming a little bleak as of now -- bleaker still, with the forecast of a good friend leaving the country soon -- but I suppose a little sleep will help clear the fog up.
